The local TV station was born January 7th of 1956. Initially on air as KHAD-TV, broadcasting NBC, CBS and ABC programming. For a very long time, known in the community as “Pro 8 News, your good neighbor station”. Now as KGNS, the Laredo station has been owned and operated by Gray Television since December 31, 2013. KGNS is an NBC, CBS, ABC, The CW and Telemundo affiliate.
KGNS offers KGNS NEWS weekday and weekend newscasts just like livestream and digital platforms on our KGNS.TV website and application platforms led by anchors Ruben Villarreal, Mindy Casso, Yocelin Gallardo, Brenda Camacho, Sports Anchor Ryan Bailey and Weather anchor Yolanda Villarreal. Webb County officials debunk COVID rumor, warn of jail scam
Skip to content LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A viral social media post claiming COVID-19 is spreading rapidly through the Webb County Jail is not true, according to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said scammers are using the rumor to target Laredo families. The sheriff’s office said only three inmates currently have the virus. Those inmates are isolated in negative-pressure cells to stop any spread. Sheriff Martin Cuellar warned that scammers are calling families and pretending to be bondsmen.
Man sentenced for beating wife with Bible, threatening her with guns

(KPTV/Gray News) - An Oregon man was sentenced to six years in prison for beating his wife with a Bible and threatening her with guns, according to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office on Friday. According to the DA’s office, on the night of May 10, 2025, 42-year-old Jared Edward Dean Tresham’s wife and two children were asleep in their house.

Jalen Melbert, 33, of Oakdale, was arrested Monday on charges of abuse of office and malfeasance in office. According to detectives, Melbert attempted to use his position as an officer to influence a victim to engage in sexual activity with him.
MTA worker hit, killed by train on the job
Skip to content NEW YORK (WCBS) - An investigation is now underway after an MTA worker in New York was killed on the job Thursday night after she was hit by a train. It happened near the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium subway stop. The MTA says Moet McCullum, 41, was working as a construction flagger, tasked with notifying passing trains that workers were on the subway tracks. She was on the tracks near River and East 161st streets when she was struck by a D train just after 11:30 p.m., officials say.

(Gray News) - A cute puppy owes his safety to an Ohio state trooper who found him in a cage near a highway. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the trooper, identified as Trooper Kronander, found the pup while doing a routine check of a rest area on Aug. 23. Body-camera footage shows the trooper rescuing the puppy. “Yeah, we’ll get you out of here, OK?” Kronander says to the puppy in the video. “Someone left you?

Smithsonian program shows behind-the-scenes work of running a circus
Skip to content WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage is presenting three days of free programming over Labor Day weekend showing the work involved in running a circus. The program, called “Artistry, Education, and Labor of Circus Arts,” is held at the Arts and Industries Building on the National Mall. It is presented by the Smithsonian and the Circus Arts Conservatory, based in Sarasota, Florida.
