LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - On the last Friday of every month, Miguel Rangel can be found at the corner of Del Mar and McPherson dressed in purple, holding a sign with a simple message. “You are not alone,” Rangel said. Rangel began volunteering in the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline movement in 2024 after moving back to Laredo. He has not stopped since. His canine companion, Peppermint, serves as the 988 mascot and joins him at events around the city.

Skip to content LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Laredo Animal Protective Society (LAPS) is reminding pet owners of its microchip service hours. The service is available Wednesday through Friday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2500 Gonzalez St. For $20, pet owners can have their animals microchipped, providing a permanent form of identification. Organizers with LAPS said a microchip increases the chances of being reunited with a pet if it is ever lost. For more headlines, click here.

Rangel has been seen at local intersections holding messages of hope, visiting schools and community events, and taking time to listen to those around him. Those who nominated him describe him as a trusted advocate for mental health awareness in the community.
