Southeast Missouri State is a member of the Football Championship Subdivision and opened the season last week with a 23-21 win at Indiana State.

Iowa will open the season at home Saturday against Northern Illinois. The Hawkeyes are coming off a 9-4 season and will be breaking in a new starting quarterback in Jeremy Hecklinski or Hank Brown. Northern Illinois is beginning its first season as a football-only member of the Mountain West Conference. The Huskies struggled offensively last year and hope new starting quarterback Taron “Tyger” Dickens can bring a spark.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa families will pay less to save for education after State Treasurer Roby Smith announced a third fee reduction for the ISave 529 plan. The plan's only fee dropped to .15%, or $1.50 per $1,000 invested. The change took effect immediately and positions ISave 529 as one of the more affordable options for Iowa families saving for future educational expenses.

MASON CITY, Iowa — The Mason City Noon Rotary Club is celebrating 110 years of community service in North Iowa. The club, part of the world's largest service organization, has 59 members who focus on local, regional and international causes.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Three Iowa men received federal prison sentences for running a methamphetamine distribution operation across the Quad Cities area. The men were responsible for distributing about 25 pounds of methamphetamine throughout the region, according to court documents and evidence presented at sentencing. Jacob Daniel Sheley, 27 of Clinton, also known as "Chili," received a 25-year prison sentence on March 17.

A Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial on Friday in the case of Lindsay Clancy, the former nurse accused of murdering her three children, after jurors deadlocked and were unable to reach a verdict. The jury deliberated for about 38 hours over seven days. Jury notes indicated the 12-person jury, made up of nine women and three men, was split 11 to 1, but any verdict must be unanimous.

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KIMT) — Drivers filling up this Labor Day weekend are facing significantly higher prices than they did a year ago, with Minnesota's average price for regular gasoline approaching $4 a gallon and diesel reaching a new state record. According to AAA, the statewide average for regular gas was $3.98 a gallon Friday, compared with $3.12 a year ago. That's an increase of roughly 86 cents, or about 28 percent. Diesel prices have climbed even more.
