No rain is anticipated, making Saturday the better day to be outside for Father's Day Weekend. Our next notable weather maker arrives on Father's Day (Sunday) with overspreading rainfall Sunday afternoon. Minimal accumulations are expected. If you have any outdoor plans for Dad on Father's Day, try to squeeze them in during the morning.

(KIMT) -- Morning sunshine will give way to gradually increasing clouds and winds in the afternoon. Westerly gusts could approach 30 MPH at times ahead of a passing low pressure system and associated cold front. Before the front arrives, temperatures will peak in the mid 70s regionwide. Scattered rain showers start to roll in ahead of the cold front during the mid-afternoon hours before isolated strong to severe storms develop along the boundary toward the evening hours.

(KIMT) -- A neat weather phenomenon happened earlier in the month of June. A perfectly circular halo formed around the Sun in Charles City, Iowa by Dr. Bradley Ellingson. You get these halos when you get high, thin cirrus clouds overhead. Ice crystals within those clouds are refracted off of the sunlight and that is how the optical phenomenon returns to our eyes. By this logic, halos are essentially sun dogs. Sun dogs are those two blaring lights on both sides of the Sun.
