Washington Fish and Wildlife wants to share floodplain and lake rehabilitation plan with the public The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and its partners are planning a project that aims to restore the floodplain of the Tucannon River, improve habitat for threatened spring chinook, steelhead and bull trout and fix a number of ailing fishing lakes along its course.
A retirement well earned
Tonya and Wayne Brooks retiring from Clearwater Paper Tonya Brooks couldn’t predict how happy her happily ever after would be when she reached a crossroads in her early 20s. She could continue to pursue her aspirations of a career in architecture or she could apply for work at Clearwater Paper. She chose the latter, understanding the weight of the decision. She was eight weeks away from completing a drafting degree, a direction her education had taken due to a series of setbacks.

LC State runner Kobe Wessels and Washington volleyball player Katy Wessels took different paths to big sports success Siblings Kobe and Katy Wessels couldn’t sit still while growing up in Lewiston. So, their parents, Stephanie and Chad Wessels, put them in every sport or activity imaginable. “We played soccer, track, basketball,” Katy Wessels said. “We did everything.” That hyperactivity set them on a path to collegiate sports careers.

From the Lewiston Tribune July 19, 2006 The Colfax City Council unanimously voted to annex about 1,200 acres into the city in an attempt to draw development to the north end of town. With the council’s decision, the McDonald family plans to sell 300 acres to Arizona Land and Ranches. The development company plans to build upscale mini-farms on lots of 20 acres and larger. All the homes will have foundations and wood construction, as well as wells and septic systems.
This gardener has more seeds than sense
My philosophy concerning a garden is the same as my philosophy toward dessert — there’s always room for a little more. It didn’t take long this spring before I realized I was sowing too many seeds in too little space. Then a light bulb flashed and I thought, “Why not go vertical?” I could just coax everything to latch onto big swaths of chicken wire and reach for the sky. Fee-fi-fo-fum. Pole beans, sugar peas and cucumber vines coiled and curled and now brush the heels and pinky toes of giants.
Twins conquer Challengers in American Legion doubleheader
AREA ROUNDUP EUGENE, Ore. — The Lewis-Clark Twins edged out a 6-5 win in Game 1 and dominated Game 2 to prevail 6-1 in an American Legion baseball doubleheader sweep over the host Eugene Challengers on Saturday. Sam Hall drove in Cody Ells for the Twins’ go-ahead run in the top of the seventh in a down-to-the-wire opener. Guy Krasselt had a big 4-for-4 batting performance with two doubles for LC (20-10).

The Lewis-Clark Bucs rout the Nampa Warriors 10-0 to get a shot at an American Legion state championship SANDPOINT, Idaho — The Lewis-Clark Bucs booked a spot in the Idaho Class B American Legion state baseball tournament title round with a resounding 10-0 shutout of the Nampa Warriors on Saturday at War Memorial Field. Conrad Kress pitched all six innings for LC (32-12), striking out three batters and holding the Warriors to four total hits before the mercy rule kicked in.
