National Newspaper Association judges have again ranked the Idaho Mountain Express among the best newspapers in the country, with the Express bringing home seven awards in the Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest. The Association received submissions from 93 newspapers in 23 states for the 2026 Better Newspaper Contest, according to its website. The Express earned first place in the General Excellence category competing against non-daily papers with a circulation of 10,000 or more.

The Bellevue City Council met at the Bellevue Fire Station on Tuesday to hear presentations by all city department heads as they outlined their duties and requested funding for fiscal year 2027. The city’s proposed budget includes $12,091,655 in total planned expenses, with forecasted general fund revenue down 2% from last year, said City Treasurer Shelly Shoemaker.
Due to a below-normal snowpack, the Big Wood Canal Co. has closed the gates at Magic Reservoir Dam, prompting Idaho Fish and Game to issue a fish salvage order for portions of river to the south. Magic Reservoir was 7.4% full as of Thursday, according to the canal company. A press release from Idaho Fish and Game spokeswoman Kenzie Baratti stated that the salvage order will be in effect through Oct. 1.
Sun Valley leaders are scheduled to commence discussions about the city’s fiscal year 2027 budget on Monday, with additional work on the spending plan scheduled for later in the month and into August. The city has scheduled a special City Council meeting at 1 p.m. Monday to conduct a 90-minute summary of and work session on the budget. The budget review and work session is set to continue in a second special City Council meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The Bellevue Urban Renewal Agency board agreed upon a tentative budget for fiscal year 2027 on Tuesday that would spend $625,000 on downtown infrastructure projects. The board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall to finalize the budget, with public comment allowed.
The city of Sun Valley will decide in coming weeks if it will grant a request from the organizing committee of the 2027 FIS Ski World Cup Finals for $233,000 to support the event. Stacey Timmons Ehleringer, chair of the committee, made the funding request to the mayor and City Council on July 2, as the council took requests from groups for money in exchange for services in the 2027 fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1.
