Hailey resident Julie Weston loved writing short stories when she was a young girl growing up in Kellogg, Idaho. She lost sight of that dream when she got into law school, as she had to work especially hard as one of five women in her class of 120. Weston graduated and spent 30 years practicing business and tax law, suspending her creative writing. “I took a writing class at night and met a neat group of women that met every Monday for 10 years,” she said.

Papoose Club logs another successful fundraiser

About 75 vendors filled the halls and the gymnasium of Ernest Hemingway STEAM School in Ketchum at this winter’s Papoose Club Holiday Bazaar, selling their handmade or homemade items. This year’s event on Dec. 7-8 included jewelry, clothing, wool mittens, honey and spices, ceramics and more. “I started selling the wool mittens I upcycle from old sweaters,” said Joy Yelda, of Wood River Mittens.

Voting is open for Sun Valley gingerbread house contest

Winterscapes, inspiration from popular films, local buildings and sports-themed gingerbread houses are on display until the end of the month in the Boiler Room at Sun Valley Resort. People can vote for their favorites, and the top three winning entries will get a monetary donation to the nonprofit listed by the entries. “The caliber of the entries this year is amazing. It’s going to be a great competition,” said Alyssa Peck, creative coordinator for Sun Valley Resort.
