Police said they had been in contact with the boater on Dauphin Island earlier on Thursday. Officials said the boater is a local man who wanted to be on his boat. Police said the man is aware of the dangers of being aboard the boat during the storm and was willing to take the risk.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WWSB) - At 8 p.m. EST, the center of Hurricane Isaias was located near latitude 30.1 North, longitude 86.6 West, moving toward the north near 18 mph. Hurricane Isaias is expected to make landfall along the coast of the western Florida Panhandle within the next hour or two, then expected to move across Alabama and into the Tennessee Valley Saturday and Sunday. Maximum sustained winds are near 110 mph with higher gusts.

VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) - High water flooded Manasota Key Road in Venice, which trapped two vehicles prompting officials to block the street. Officials said waves from the Gulf were pushing water and sand across the pavement. The road was blocked at about 3:30 p.m., and officials urged drivers to stay away. Water was about ankle-deep in one area and closer to knee-deep farther down the road. Waves were crashing onto the shoreline and carrying water and sand across the lanes.
