MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Game week has officially arrived for Wisconsin football, and the Badgers are preparing for a massive test right out of the gate. Wisconsin is set to kick off its 2026 season on Sunday, facing off against the fourth-ranked team in the country, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Historically, Notre Dame holds a 9-6 advantage in the head-to-head series. But the Badgers team taking the field this weekend looks entirely different than the last time these two programs met.

CHICAGO (AP) — Alex Bregman hit three of Chicago’s franchise-record nine home runs and the Cubs punctuated their August power display with a 17-3 blowout of the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night. Clay Holmes pitched six scoreless innings for the Cubs, who launched five homers off Milwaukee starter Kyle Harrison in the first four innings and three more against position player Andrew Vaughn late in the game. Chicago went back-to-back twice, in the first inning and the fourth.

ARLINGTON, Wis. — Opposition is building in southern Wisconsin over two proposed 765-kilovolt transmission line projects, known as Maribell and BECI. A public conversation was held in Arlington on Monday to discuss the proposals. The projects would run across state borders with Minnesota and Illinois, including through southern Wisconsin. Multiple other communities have also spoken out against the BECI project.

LAKE ORION, Mich. (WXYZ) – A 4-year-old Michigan girl is facing a long recovery after she lost part of her leg in a lawnmower accident. Brielle Thompson’s aunt and uncle, Abigail and Jonathan Thompson, said she was visiting Minnesota with her family when the accident happened. “Right now, it’s just a waiting game of how well she’s able to heal,” Abigail Thompson said. Brielle and her family are from Lake Orion, but were vacationing in Minnesota when it happened.

WESTLAKE, Ohio (CNN) - Police officers freed a red fox that had become tangled in a soccer net. Officers with the Westlake Police Department in Ohio were called out to the field on Saturday. Video the department shared to social media shows the fox’s leg was caught in the net’s rope. Officers used scissors to cut the rope and free the animal. Thankfully, the fox kept patient during the rescue and only became antsy near the end. It could be seen running quickly away once it was freed from the net.

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA/Gray News) - A former Texas officer is accused of using the Flock camera system to track a victim 76 times. The Amarillo Police Department fired Christian Eder on July 17, citing inappropriate conduct. Police say they received a citizen complaint about Eder’s conduct and launched an internal investigation. They determined Eder used department resources inappropriately.
