LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Clark County School District Chief of Police Jeff Clark says his department has stepped up enforcement and training in an effort to improve safety for students as the school year gets underway. Clark said that in the first three weeks of school, the department is up more than 40% in terms of traffic stops, and up nearly 40% in terms of traffic citations. He says traffic accidents are down nearly 15%.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — “I’m just waiting for the day that he snaps.” Those were the chilling words Ashley Apodaca Avila told Las Vegas police just days before investigators say her estranged husband shot and killed her, then himself. Ten days before the apparent murder-suicide, police say 33-year-old Avila called 911 after her estranged husband, Joaquin Novelo, showed up at her apartment with a knife. Novelo was arrested for aggravated stalking and later released on bail.

CHEROKEE, N.C. (WLOS) — A Japanese immigrant whose photographs, maps and conservation work helped create Great Smoky Mountains National Park is receiving new recognition nearly a century after his death. A new exhibit at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee highlights Masa's life, photography and role in the effort to establish the national park.
