Portrait of America’s First Black Elected Official to Hang in NH State House
A portrait of America’s first Black elected official, Newmarket state Rep. Wentworth Cheswill, will hang in the New Hampshire State House following its unveiling Friday. Cheswill served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1801 and held numerous public offices over the course of his life. He was born in Newmarket in 1746 to Hopestill Cheswill, a free biracial man regarded as New Hampshire’s first landowner of African descent.
SYSC Protesters: AG Report Repeats Pattern of Blaming Victims
With the Sununu Youth Services Center visible in the distance, fewer than a dozen people stood along River Road on Saturday, holding signs and talking to anyone who would listen about the abuse of children inside state facilities. Shaheen Touts Endorsement From Group Pushing Payroll Tax Hike on Every Worker
Stefany Shaheen wants voters to know she has been endorsed in the crowded NH-01 Democratic primary by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM), a national progressive organization. “Honored to have earned the endorsement of NCPSSM,” Shaheen bragged on X. “I have heard real fear about whether Social Security will be there when people need it.” What she hasn’t mentioned — and has declined to answer questions about — are the NCPSSM’s actual policy proposals.
Why Socialism Is Incompatible With the American Spirit
Before one closes the door on the American dream of prosperity, freedom and human rights, read “The Communist Manifesto,” published in 1848 by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Do you know what Marxian socialism is? Socialists profess devotion to the working class by advocating class and race distinctions and conflicts to develop benevolence and cooperation with the state, or government, that will lay the future to human causes.
DiLorenzo: I’ll Have the Resources to Beat Stefany Shaheen in NH-01
NH-01 GOP candidate Anthony DiLorenzo joins the NHJournal podcast to talk about his path to success in the primary and in the general election — likely against Democrat Stefany Shaheen. He also breaks the news that he’s reporting his campaign took in more than $1 million ($1,026,010.68 to be exact) in Q2 (most of it from DiLorenzo himself), which he says shows that 2026 will be the first cycle in at least a decade when the GOP had the cash to go toe-to-toe with Democrats in the 1st CD.
Scanlan Shrugs Off News of DOJ Election Observers: ‘We Do A Good Job’
New Hampshire Secretary of State David Scanlan told NHJournal Thursday he’s not concerned about election observers from the federal Department of Justice to observe the September 8 primaries. “Our elections are open to observation by anyone, including federal agencies,” Scanlan said. “When it comes to elections, New Hampshire does a good job.” On Wednesday, New Hampshire Journal reported that Harmeet K.
OSBORNE: House Dems’ Tax-Hike Agenda Is Hiding in Plain Sight
Last week, House Democratic Leader Alexis Simpson sat down with WMUR and told Granite Staters exactly what a Democrat majority would mean for this state: more government spending, more government control, and a bigger tax bill handed to every family in New Hampshire. She didn’t have to say it in so many words. Her party’s voting record already said it for her. The absolute last thing Granite Staters need is a government hell-bent on reaching deeper into their pockets.
Ayotte Signs Child Care Tax Credit Backed by Business Leaders
Housing. Workforce. Child care. That is the three-legged stool of priorities for New Hampshire business owners, according to the elected officials and business leaders who joined Gov. Kelly Ayotte on Thursday at The Granite YMCA in Manchester as she highlighted a new child care tax credit program aimed at getting more Granite Staters into the workforce.
