As a kid, I stood alongside my mother holding signs on picket lines. As a firefighter and EMT in Manchester, I helped lead talks that produced the department’s first union contract. Today, I’m a corrections officer in the state prison system, going on 11 years. I know from experience that a good union can make a real difference for workers — and that a good union requires transparency. A recent notice from the Connecticut Department of Labor suggests state officials may belatedly agree.
