The High Court in Luweero, presided over by Justice Samuel Emokor, has started hearing election petitions challenging the results of the 2026 parliamentary elections, beginning with a petition filed by former Nakaseke Central MP Allan Mayanja against State Minister for Kampala Kabuye Kyofa. Mayanja and Kyofa appeared in court alongside their supporters and legal teams, while the Electoral Commission was represented by counsel Nasser Serunjoji.

The High Court in Jinja has set a maximum hearing period of four days for each election petition filed before the court, as the Judiciary moves to expedite the determination of disputes arising from the recent elections. The directive was issued by High Court Judge Lady Justice Aidah Nakiganda during a pre-trial conference with lawyers representing the different parties in the election petitions ahead of the commencement of hearings.

Quality Chemical Industries Limited (Qcil) has called for stronger collaboration between Uganda and Nigeria to expand pharmaceutical manufacturing, strengthen regional supply chains and improve access to quality-assured medicines across Africa. The Government of Uganda will transition public servants to a new Public Service Pension Scheme starting July 1, 2027, under which employees will contribute 5 per cent of their basic salary while government contributes 10 per cent. Established under the Public Service Pension Fund law, the new scheme will operate as a hybrid defined benefit arrangement.

Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was born on September 15, 1944, in Ntungamo, western Uganda, beginning a journey that would eventually take him to the presidency, a position he has held since January 26, 1986. Born to Amos Kaguta and Esteri Kokundeka, Museveni grew up in a pastoralist family.
