The Government of Uganda will transition public servants to a new Public Service Pension Scheme starting July 1, 2027, under which employees will contribute 5 per cent of their basic salary while government contributes 10 per cent. Established under the Public Service Pension Fund law, the new scheme will operate as a hybrid defined benefit arrangement.

Lawyers in Western Uganda have been urged to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to enhance legal service delivery, expand access to justice and promote ethical governance. The call was made during the Uganda Law Society (ULS) Techfest workshop held at the Law Development Centre (LDC) in Mbarara City. The workshop introduced lawyers from the Western Region to emerging technologies and their application in the legal profession.

The High Court sitting in Rukungiri has set October 6, 2026, as the date for the hearing of a petition challenging the election of Gen. Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu, the Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, as Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality. The petition was filed in late March 2026 by Ingrid Kamateneti Turinawe, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) flag bearer.
