Wayne Mellinger: When the Library Is the Last Public Living Room
The first time I saw Marguerite, she was sitting on the low wall outside the Santa Barbara Central Library on East Anapamu Street, a canvas tote bag on her lap, both hands resting on top of it like she was keeping something warm. It was a little past 9:30 a.m., before the doors opened, and she was first in line. She’s always first in line.
