Original 106 is an independent radio station broadcasting to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. It was initially owned by Canadian media company Canwest, and was awarded its broadcast licence (the last new commercial FM licence to be issued by Ofcom) in January 2007 and the station launched on 28 October 2007 at 1:06 pm, when the first record played was "Revolution" by The Beatles. On 12 September 2009 the station was sold to a consortium led by Adam Findlay which included John Quinn and Murray Strachan. Adam Findlay's New Wave Media owned Dundee radio station Wave 102, John Quinn is the majority shareholder and chairman of Central FM, a station which covers the Forth Valley in the Central Belt. On 20 March 2019 it was announced that the publisher DC Thomson, which already owned Wave FM in Dundee, had bought the Fife-based Kingdom FM and Original 106 taking its tally of radio stations to three. A Dundee shop owner has told how she rushed to put out flames after kids reportedly set fire to paper and put it through a window at her business. Two fire engines were called to a small fire at the Stitch Master tailor shop on Panmure Street in the city centre shortly after 11am on Thursday. Crews quickly extinguished the blaze, and two police officers arrived minutes later. Liliana Alcicek, owner of the shop, told of her shock after seeing the flames come from the back window.
Stagecoach bus trapped between Banchory and Torphins as wintry conditions continue in Deeside
A double-decker bus in Aberdeenshire was left stranded this morning as widespread snow and ice left roads impassable. The number 202 Stagecoach service ground to a halt near Glassel after becoming temporarily stranded on an icy stretch of road. Motorists on the Banchory to Torphins road faced tailbacks as efforts to free the bus got under way. Stagecoach bosses confirmed the issue was caused by a vehicle in front, which lost traction in the conditions.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Friday as a week of wintry conditions continues across the north and north-east. Showers are expected to persist through Thursday night into Friday morning, bringing icy patches on untreated roads and pavements, and snow settling over higher ground. The Met Office warned that journeys by road, bus and train were likely to take longer, with slips and falls on icy surfaces also a risk.

A drug mule was transporting £27,000 of cannabis to Aberdeen in a bid to raise funds for a court appearance in Stirling. William Tait, 37, was stopped on the A90 near Stonehaven on August 1 2024. A search of his vehicle uncovered two large bags of “herbal substance,” which was tested and found to be the class B drug. Fiscal depute Douglas Thomson told Stirling Sheriff Court the drugs had a potential five-figure value once divided.
Jack-knifed lorry blocks A947 as wintry conditions leave drivers stranded near Oldmeldrum
Traffic on the A947 was brought to a standstill due to a jack-knifed lorry. The HGV was travelling on the A947 Oldmeldrum to Newmacher road in the early hours when it lost control. Pictures taken on the Aberdeenshire road this morning showed a large volume of fresh snow covering the carriageway. It is understood that several vehicles became trapped along the route, including a bus and a snowplough.
Car destroyed in overnight Dundee fire as police guard scene
A car has been destroyed in an overnight fire in Dundee. Emergency services were called to Craigard Road in the Charleston area just before 3am on Thursday. The car has been left completely burnt out, while another car has suffered rear-end damage due to the heat of the fire. A police vehicle remained at the scene later on Thursday morning, near the junction with Craigmount Road. One resident told The Courier they heard the tyres popping as they called emergency services.
