ANAHEIM — The Angels’ lost weekend in the nation’s capital demonstrated a frustrating trend. The Angels lost three one-games to the Washington Nationals, completing a nine-game trip in which the Angels lost all five one-run games they played. For the season, they are 16-29 in one-run games. That’s the most losses in the majors in those games. While the knee-jerk response is to blame the bullpen for that record, first-year Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said it’s not that simple.

LOS ANGELES — Starting the season 2-0 under new head coach Bob Chesney has created positive energy around the UCLA football program, but the grind of Big Ten Conference play begins this week when Purdue (1-1) visits the Rose Bowl on Saturday night. Chesney recognizes the challenge Purdue provides. The Boilermakers are in their second season under Barry Odom and are coming off a 38-36 double-overtime loss to Wake Forest at home last weekend.
