44-year-old shot to death, 2 wounded in San Bernardino attack

A 44-year-old San Bernardino man was shot to death in that city on Saturday, July 11, police said. Police responded to the shooting at 8:50 p.m. at Baseline Street and North Sierra Way, Capt. Nelson Carrington said. There, officers found Marlin J. Woods dead from gunfire and two others wounded, Carrington said. The injured were hospitalized and expected to survive, the captain said. Detectives were attempting to establish a motive and identify the shooter, Carrington said on Tuesday, July 14.

Summit fire north of Wrightwood burning into Angeles National Forest

A brush fire burning in Los Angeles County and threatening Wrightwood and San Bernardino County prompted evacuation orders on Friday, July 10. Capt. Eric Sherwin, a San Bernardino County fire spokesman, said the Summit fire had burned 1,300 acres as of 4 p.m., a little more than two hours after its ignition. The flames were moving in a south-southeast direction. The fire broke out just east of Piñon Hills. “It won’t take much of a wind shift to drive it into our backyard,” Sherwin said.

Man points gun at San Bernardino officer, who wounds him, authorities say Original

A San Bernardino police officer shot and wounded a man on Tuesday, July 7, who authorities say pointed what turned out to be a replica gun at the officer. Officers responded to 1400 S. E St., near Orange Show Road, at 5:18 p.m., Sgt. Erik Campos said. Callers to 911 said the man, later identified as Michael Anthony Valva, 34, was walking, transferring what appeared to be a gun from one hand to the other.
