Gophers starting quarterback Drake Lindsey pleaded guilty Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of being a minor in possession of alcohol and fake identification. A Washington County (Ark.) Deputy Clerk told the Pioneer Press the matter was settled with Lindsey having one year of unsupervised probation. He also will pay court fees. Lindsey, then age 20, was arrested by the Fayetteville Police Department on May 1 in the Yeehawg Bar.

The Minnesota Timberwolves now have a starting-caliber power forward. Is it the right one? Only time can answer that question, but Minnesota addressed a massive need by agreeing to a two-year, $12 million deal with Jonathan Kuminga on Wednesday, a source confirmed. The deal includes a player option in Year 2. The deal won’t be finalized until Minnesota makes another transaction because the Wolves don’t currently have the cap space to offer that contract.

ST. CLOUD — The new NCAA eligibility rules that are taking effect this school year pushed John Hirschfeld into shifting gears. The new "5-for-5 rule" requires players to complete four years of college competition within a five-year time span after they graduate from high school or turn 19. Hirschfeld was committed to play for the University of Vermont since April 2024.

SACRAMENTO — In the immediate aftermath of Byron Buxton’s early departure from Tuesday night’s game against the Athletics, manager Derek Shelton said the Twins were in a “wait-and-see” mode and waiting to see if the All-Star center fielder needs to go on the injured list. “He’s just too important to us,” Shelton told reporters on Wednesday. Buxton left a 4-2 loss in the seventh inning after trying to track down Henry Bolte’s triple into the right-center field gap.

EAGAN, Minn. — The plan all along for head coach Kevin O’Connell was to have quarterback JJ McCarthy to start for the Vikings in the final exhibition game against the Denver Broncos. That might no longer be possible. McCarthy suffered a minor ankle injury in last Saturday’s exhibition game against the Baltimore Ravens and didn’t suit up for the final practice of training camp on Wednesday at TCO Performance Center.

ST. CLOUD — A former North Star Cemetery Association president is accused of embezzling more than $350,000 between 2020 and 2024. St. Cloud resident Roger Joseph Robinson, 66, is facing felony criminal charges of theft by swindling in Stearns County District Court and a civil lawsuit in the same jurisdiction filed by his former employer.

LOS ANGELES — Tim Curry, the baritone-voiced British actor who pranced to movie fame as a singing, lingerie-clad "sweet transvestite" in the 1975 cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," Variety and other outlets reported. He was 80 years old. A cause of death was not immediately given, but Curry had been in ill health for some time.

You can also explore renovations to the Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum, ride new Midway attractions and park your bike in larger lots.

ST. CLOUD — The St. Cloud State men's and women's hockey teams will host their annual Puck Drop Breakfast from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the St. Cloud Country Club. The event will be hosted by Huskies play-by-play announcer Jim Erickson. SCSU men's head coach Nick Oliver and women's coach Mira Jalosuo will headline the event. The 31-year-old lost by unanimous decision to Roman Puga on Aug. 18 in Las Vegas.

ROYALTON — Jim Langer Field will have a new look this fall. Royalton High School was one of 25 finalists in last year’s T-Mobile 5G Friday Night Lights fan vote competition that won the Royals $25,000 toward home football stadium upgrades. RHS earned an additional $5,000 from a “5K Friday” contest during last season’s competition. Add on a $50,000 donation from the Royalton Fire Department and Royalton Fire Relief Association, and the total pot rose to $80,000.
