Skies remain mostly cloudy Tuesday, but temperatures take a big drop into the low 70s Tuesday thanks to a strong northwest wind. The sunshine returns for Wednesday, and air quality continues to improve. Temperatures remain around 80 degrees the rest of the week.

SUPERIOR — A piece of Richard I. Bong's famous "Marge" plane is returning to Superior. A wingtip of the crashed P-38 Lightning fighter will be on display first at the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh airshow from July 20-26. The piece will then be showcased in Poplar, Bong's hometown, from 2-4 p.m. July 26 at Bong's historical marker on Highway 2. Then it will make its way to its permanent home at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior.

Jun. 24, 1952 - Jul. 16, 2026 SUPERIOR, Wis. - Edward "Ray Ray" Raymond Erickson, 74, Superior, Wis. died Thursday, Jul. 16, in his residence. A graveside service for Ray Ray and his daughter, Linda, will be held on Thursday July 23rd at 2:30 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Superior. Arrangements by Downs Life Celebration Center.

BECKER COUNTY, Minn. — For nearly a decade, Linda Anderson has been searching for her daughter, Melissa “Mitzy” Eagleshield, who disappeared on Oct. 5, 2014, in Becker County, Minnesota. The stress, the searching, the harrowing “what if” thoughts about her daughter became too much earlier this year; all she could do was lie down, shut off her phone, lock the door and rest. At times, Misha, her pet Bichon, sensed her misery and would snuggle in consolation.

Superior Public Library’s Homeschool Lego Club will be held 2-4 p.m. Thursday, July 23 in the Youth Services area. Homeschooling families are invited to come to the library and build something awesome out of Lego bricks while socializing with other homeschoolers.

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley jumped back into the race for governor Saturday in a last minute attempt to take control of the contest just 24 days before the August primary. The day before, Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez ended her bid. Rodriguez announced her decision five days after revealing that she had fired her campaign manager, Kara Spencer.

A cold front will move into the Northland on Monday, and that will increase severe weather and wildfire risks for the region. For the afternoon, it will still be warm and muggy, with temperatures in the upper 80s across much of the area. As the day goes on, with winds increasing out of the west, there will be elevated fire risks for both Monday and Tuesday.

Shooting probe reveals little Following an investigation Deputy Sheriffs Elmer Hunker and Fred Miller reported that no clues have been uncovered in the mysterious shooting affray which resulted in two bullets being fired through the windows of E. G. Brown's car while he was driving along state highway No. 11 near Gordon Thursday afternoon. The deputies visited the scene of the shooting, but report no persons living in the shacks from where it is suspected the gun was fired.

Sep. 18, 1956 - Jul. 17, 2026 HAWTHORNE, Wis. - Kathleen J. Baker, 69, Superior, Wis. died Friday, Jul. 17, in Middle River Health and Rehab. Visitation will be held on Friday July 24th from 10:00 until the 11:00 funeral service at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

After a calm and sunny start to the weekend, we have winds increasing a little today. With winds remaining out of the southwest for much of the Northland at 10 to 15 miles per hour today, temperatures look to rise into the upper 80s for another warm and dry afternoon. Due to low relative humidity across the area, we are keeping an eye on fire risks through the evening tonight, but the higher concern will be as winds continue to increase for the start of the week.
