MANTORVILLE, Minn. — Plans to celebrate the nation's 250th birthday in Minnesota and at the $60 million Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., are much different than how the nation celebrated its centennial birthday in 1876. In Mantorville, Minnesota, one of the state's oldest towns, politics, money making and adventures were put aside and the city celebrated with a processional band, speeches, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, picnic dinners and horse races.
