Oriane Sachs-Bernstein ’26 spent the summer of 2025 in Massafer Yatta, West Bank, doing protective presence. Following a six-month-long ban on Instagram, Sachs-Bernstein regained her profile in February 2026, on which she currently has over 3,500 followers, and began posting content she made while in Palestine.

In our yearly tradition, we spoke with graduating seniors from The Mac Weekly about their time on the paper. These seniors have been talented writers, editors and leaders throughout their time at Mac. TMW: Why did you first join The Mac Weekly, and what made you stay? Callisto Martinez: I kind of came to Mac for The Mac Weekly. There were not very many liberal arts colleges with decent papers that were in a metropolitan area that were also in the Midwest. So Mac felt like the best choice.

On Tuesday, April 7, Macalester’s Elementary Russian II and Intermediate Russian II classes and several other members of the Russian Studies department visited the Uzbek restaurant Samarkand for dinner. The trip was funded by Macalester’s Twin Cities Action Fund, intended to foster student engagement with local communities. While it boasts the distinction of being Minnesota’s only Uzbek restaurant, Samarkand itself is relatively nondescript.

It’s day one of orientation. Sitting in a circle on the grass, you’re asked where you’re from or — as it’s more recently been phrased — “where do you call home?” Most people answer without a second thought. What does it mean to call a place “home?” When I started college, I thought that was an easy question to answer. Home was the place I grew up. The place where my sister and I danced in the basement together, and where I could always find my dogs and cats waiting for me to return from school.

On Aug. 17, 2025, I watched a video of Ritchie Torres, a congressman from the South Bronx who speaks in short monotone stabs, coldly staring down a crying nerd in a suit. That nerd is Adam Friedland, a fascinating specimen from New York City who hosts “The Adam Friedland Show.” He is the former resident heel of “Cum Town,” an extremely crass and popular podcast that Macalester men seldom admit to liking. Now, at age 39, he hosts a show where he annoys famous people. It’s great.

On Thursday, April 23, Macalester College Student Government (MCSG) convened in the Weyerhaeuser Boardroom to hear an update from the Peacemaking Grant Fundraising Ad Hoc Committee and discuss annual edits to codes and bylaws.

There’s no way around it: the world sucks right now. America is run by hacks and wannabe fascists. The internet is inundated with violence and disinformation. Masked men are mercilessly ripping our neighbors from their homes and families. Most importantly for this article, any semblance of control we exercised over climate change is disappearing like sand between our fingers.

Letter from the Editor: Dear Reader, Thank you for reading the Sports section this year! Whether you flipped through a TWIS or read every article back to front, we appreciate your readership. This was an amazing year for Scot athletics, both on and off the field. We saw an NCAA tournament run, water polo return atop the CWPA, one of the best baseball seasons in recent memory and football even won a game! Macalester athletics is thriving; next year will be even better.

The Macalester Scots track and field team closed their indoor season on March 14 at the National Collegiate Athletics Association Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. During the first day of nationals on March 13, Ariella Rogahn-Press ’28 broke the meet record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.22 seconds. John Ihrke ’28 represented the men’s team at the meet, and qualified for finals in the 800 meter.
