Today, Apple announced the AirPods 5, updates to the AirPods 4 series that was first released in 2024. Apple says the new buds feature “best-in-class open‑ear active noise cancellation.” The AirPods 5 are redesigned with a new acoustic architecture, upgrades to adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) with 50 percent better noise reduction than the AirPods 4, and improved sound.
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is ready for the new Siri
Apple announced the next version of the rugged and durable Apple Watch Ultra at today’s “Surprise and shine” event. The new model follows the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which launched last year. That watch debuted with upgrades including improved battery life, support for 5G networks on the cellular model, satellite-based messaging and emergency calling, and a slightly larger display thanks to a slimmed bezel.
iOS 27 launches on September 14th with Siri AI
Apple is launching its next iOS 27 update on Monday September 14th. The headline feature is Siri AI, the delayed AI-powered overhaul of the Siri assistant. Siri AI is rolling out with iOS 27 as a beta, available initially for English-only devices. Apple says support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is coming in October. Siri AI isn’t the only big feature in iOS 27, though.
Apple Watch Series 12 has an always-on Siri that makes AI recaps of your day
Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 12 at its September 9th product launch event, coming one year after the Series 11, Ultra 3, and SE 3. The highlight feature is Siri AI-powered Audio Intelligence with sound recognition. It includes a “live rewind” feature that allows users to replay recently detected audio and transcribe it. There’s also a Siri Recap feature that uses “ambient listening” to take notes on audio from your watch.
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro has a dynamic-aperture main camera
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its event on Wednesday. The 18 Pro and Pro Max come in deep black, silver, “glacier,” and burgundy, with color-matched back glass. They also have a new A20 Pro chip and purportedly the longest battery in an iPhone. During Wednesday’s presentation, Apple highlighted how the new phones are well-equipped to work with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, including Siri AI’s more expressive voices.
Microsoft has new AI privacy rules for schools
Microsoft agreed to a set of safety and privacy principles for AI in schools a week after two major school systems announced a ban on student-facing AI. In a new agreement with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the second-largest teachers union in the US, and its New York City affiliate the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), Microsoft committed to ten principles that can be contractually enforced by school districts that adopt them.
Apple’s John Ternus era begins: ‘It is great to be here’
Apple’s latest product event began with something the company hasn’t seen in more than a decade: a new CEO at the helm. John Ternus opened Wednesday’s event excited about Apple’s future in what is his first product launch since succeeding Tim Cook as chief executive. “I think you’re gonna like what you’re gonna see,” he said.
Ocarina of Time remake physical preorders are $10 off at Walmart
Nintendo announced a variety of new titles at its September livestream, but among the most talked-about is the remastered The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2. Walmart has the physical copy of the upcoming game available for preorder for just $59.88, which is $10 lower than the physical price elsewhere, and the same as the digital price. The game officially releases on November 5th, 2026, and should ship in time to reach you on launch day.
Some of Dyson’s $500 toothbrushes are breaking
Early users of Dyson’s CameraJet are reporting that water is getting into the battery compartment of the newly launched $499.99 electric toothbrush. One user posted on the r/Dyson subreddit that their model “broke within 30 seconds.” The problem appears to stem from the device getting wet, which is a big issue for a toothbrush. In a post earlier this week, a Reddit user in the UK wrote that his unit appeared faulty and then discovered water in the battery compartment.
