WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court denied Christa Pike’s request to halt her Sept. 30 execution and declined to hear her appeal. Pike is set to be executed Wednesday for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer. BENTON COUNTY, Arkansas — Former state representative and current unopposed Benton County judge candidate Austin McCollum was arrested again on Tuesday, just weeks after he was accused of attacking his wife. SACRAMENTO, Calif — California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law Tuesday banning local, state and federal law enforcement officers from using gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks to people. The ban on shock gloves will take effect next year and remain in place until 2030. NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark — The North Little Rock School District is asking a court for help identifying the recipient of more than $12,700 in electronic payments the district said were mistakenly sent to the wrong bank account.
