In a meeting that lasted nearly five hours, Carter County commissioners voted to end their tourism contract with the Chamber of Commerce and instead offer a new one with different terms. The narrow 12-to-11 vote came after nearly two hours of public comment. All but one person asked commissioners to keep the Chamber of Commerce in charge of tourism. “We have seen their positive impact in our community. There is no good reason to use another agency,” chamber board president Kathy Campbell said.
