(WAFB/Gray News) - Four people formerly tied to Impact Charter School in Baker, Louisiana, and the non-profit it shared board members with are now criminally indicted in federal court in Baton Rouge. Chakesha Scott served as the former chief executive officer of Impact Charter School and the Friends of Impact Charter School, a nonprofit corporation. A grand jury found enough evidence exists that she funneled the school’s money for personal use through many alleged schemes.

Daycare teacher arrested for child cruelty, accused of abusing 2 young brothers, police say
NASHVILLE, Ga. (WALB/Gray News) — A daycare teacher in Georgia has been arrested and charged with one count of cruelty to children. According to Berrien County jail records, Debora Schlueter, who worked at the Small World Education Center, was taken into police custody on Thursday. Her charges include child cruelty and causing excessive physical or mental pain.
Police shoot, kill dog after attack at housing complex
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW/Gray News) - A family is mourning the loss of one of its dogs after a violent altercation in a southeast Topeka housing complex parking lot left a pregnant woman hospitalized with serious injuries. Topeka police said officers arrived at the Highland Park Townhomes shortly after midnight to find two dogs attacking a woman. An officer fired at and killed one of the dogs. The other was taken into custody by animal control.
Police say ICE agents walked away from attempted arrest, leaving man handcuffed at airport
LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) — Officers say Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents tried to arrest a man at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Monday, but left before taking him into custody. The attempted arrest happened just after 6 p.m. on July 13, when Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s airport officers were called to a disturbance in Terminal 3. Officers arrived and found an elderly man with a handcuff attached to one arm.
World Cup spending surge surprises economists, boosts local economies across U.S. host cities
NEW YORK CITY (Gray DC) - The FIFA World Cup has delivered an economic boost to businesses across the United States. Data from the Bank of America Institute suggests each of the 11 host cities have seen increased spending during the tournament. Joe Wadford, an economist with Bank of America Institute, said last month credit and debit card spending was up 6.3% compared to June 2025. “The spending story is the strongest we’ve seen in over four years, so I don’t think anybody expected that,” he said.
