Explosion of fireworks in central Mexico kills at least 10 dead, injures 64 people
TEMASCALCINGO, Mexico (AP) — Pyrotechnic material exploded during the festival for a patron saint in a town in Mexico State, collapsing a wall, killing at least 10 people and injuring another 64, Mexican authorities said. The explosion occurred Saturday night next to the Nuestra Señora de la Luz church in Temascalcingo, a municipality in central Mexico with 66,000 residents. Hundreds of them were preparing to watch a fireworks display that is part of a religious festival when the blast occurred.

MIAMI (AP) — An Amazon cargo plane overshot a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, striking multiple vehicles and pausing flights at the busy travel hub as plumes of black smoke could be seen pouring from the fiery plane. The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft overran the runway at around 2 p.m. after heading into Florida from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Prime Air plane came to rest beside a roadway, with two semi-trucks parked nearby, according to images on social media.

ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) - A truck driver accused of shooting a man at an Orange County warehouse appeared before a judge Friday, days after being arrested in Georgia. David Crump, 67, is charged with attempted second-degree murder with a firearm. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around noon on Aug. 26 near Boice Pond Road in south Orange County. Investigators say Crump, a truck driver, was supposed to make a delivery to a warehouse but arrived hours late.

Venkatesh Nalabothula was found guilty Thursday on charges that included second-degree sexual assault and burglary. The convictions followed a four-day jury trial. Jurors deliberated for just over three hours before reaching their verdicts.

PRAIA, Cape Verde (AP) — At least 25 people — mostly teenagers — were killed in a traffic accident in the African island nation of Cape Verde, local media and officials said Sunday. The accident, which occurred on the Campanas de Cima route, a mountainous area in Fogo Island, occurred on Saturday and involved a passenger bus. Several people were also injured. The president of Cape Verde, José Maria Pereira Neves, called the accident “a great catastrophe” in a statement on his Facebook page.
