The 2026 hurricane season is halfway through for both the Atlantic and Pacific, with just five tropical storms reported for the Atlantic. The lower-than-average number of storms is likely due to the El Niño event gearing up in the Pacific Ocean. Both El Niño and La Niña can impact hurricane season. For the hurricanes over the Pacific, there can be fewer hurricanes during a La Niña and more during an El Niño. The opposite is true for the Atlantic hurricane season.

A U.S. missile hit a home in southern Iran where dozens were gathered to celebrate the wedding of a fisherman's daughter, according to a rights group and Iranian media. Iranian state media said four people - two women and two children - were killed and more than 60 were wounded. The rights group said one of the children, a teenager, was killed by another strike on a nearby communications tower.

SEATTLE - Amazon is rolling out a new tool to help customers know whether or not a message they received is actually from Amazon, or in fact, an impersonation scam. The verification tool is housed under Amazon's Alexa for Shopping feature. Customers can use Alexa for Shopping to ask about the message they received and provide information about where the message came from, when it arrived, and what it said.

Jurors in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children in 2023, reported a continued deadlock during their fifth day of deliberations Wednesday, and Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan presented a special instruction designed to push them to keep trying.

Pabst Blue Ribbon wants its beer back, and it's offering a reward to help that happen. Greig DeBow, the CEO of Pabst Brewing Co., said Wednesday that the company will pay up to $20,000 to anyone who provides new information that leads to the recovery of 1,602 cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon and non-alcoholic Old Milwaukee beer. The beer went missing Aug. 17 in Southern California. "I'm sure they look cool with a garage full of PBR," DeBow said in a post on TikTok. "That's actually not cool though.

Apple has relabeled Lake Ontario to "Lake America" for U.S. users of its Maps app, following competitor Google days after President Donald Trump ordered a new name for the body of water amid his escalating trade war with Canada. As of Wednesday morning, Apple Maps displayed "Lake America" for U.S. users looking at the lake that sits between the state of New York and Canada's Ontario province. Users outside of the U.S. still saw the Lake Ontario name.

Dollywood, an iconic theme park co-owned by the late Dolly Parton, has vowed to keep the country music legend's legacy alive. On Wednesday, the park announced plans to honor Parton. Company President Eugene Naughton shared information about several new projects. The centerpiece will be a reflection area around a waterfall. It will be constructed near the chapel in the theme park that honors the doctor who delivered Parton at birth.

The Chinese government is pressing for answers after a Chinese man died hours after being taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a U.S. territory. Lianyong Wei, 51, died Aug. 23 at a hospital in the Northern Mariana Islands, ICE announced in a news release Tuesday. Wei was arrested Aug. 21 by the Northern Mariana Islands Department of Public Safety on criminal charges stemming from an alleged assault on a family of five at their home, according to ICE.
