Meg Clayton

Meg Waite Clayton is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of five novels. Her most recent, the national bestseller The Race for Paris (HarperCollins, August 2015), explores the experiences of women journalists in WWII Europe, a pivotal point in the progress of women journalists. The Race for Paris was honored by the 2015 Langum Prize committee for literary merit and historical accuracy. Meg’s The Wednesday Sisters, named one of Entertainment Weekly's 25 Essential Best Friend Novels of all time, considers the effect of the second wave of the women’s movement even on women who don’t identify as feminist. Her first novel, The Language of Light, was a finalist for what is now the PEN/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction.

Meg’s essays and shorter works—more than fifty of which have appeared in publications including the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Forbes, and aired on public radio—range over topics including the progress of female movie and television directors, writers, war correspondents, politicians, astronauts, athletes, and even Supreme Court justices; the representation of women and girls in movies and film and the effect those portrayals have on gender expectations; laws limiting access to everything from career opportunity to birth control; the genderization of toys; and the ways in which expectations for women, including their appearance, erode self-esteem.

Meg is a member of JAWS, the women in journalism symposium and the National Book Critics Circle. She is also a member of the California bar.
