There are moments in a state’s history that remind us exactly who we are and why we choose to call this place home. The recent resolution, SJ9 - which protects our public lands and keeps the decision making local, signed into law here in Wyoming, is one of those moments. Across our wide-open landscapes and tight-knit communities, there is a shared understanding: Wyoming stands for independence, conviction and the right to shape our own future.

Mental health has become one of the most pressing issues facing Wyoming today. In a state known for its wide-open spaces and strong sense of independence, many residents quietly carry burdens that are not always visible. Yet the statistics remind us that this challenge is very real. Wyoming consistently ranks among the states with the highest suicide rates in the country, with a rate of about 26.3 deaths per 100,000 people – far higher than the national average.

The Wyoming Legislature’s decision last week to strengthen penalties for misdemeanor theft is a move that reflects a growing concern shared by many small businesses and communities across the state. Senate File 7 doubles the maximum penalties for theft under $1,000, increasing the potential jail sentence from six months to one year and raising the maximum fine from $750 to $1,500.
