ITV Cymru Wales journalist Megan Boot reports. The proportion of Welsh students applying to higher education has fallen to one in three – the lowest of all the UK nations. Leo Rawson, from Blackwood, is among the students in Wales who successfully applied to university, heading to Oxford to study physics. "When you're lucky enough to get the results, it's a good feeling," he told ITV Cymru Wales.

On Thursday, Welsh students will receive their A Level results. This group of  students have faced a lot - more than two years of their secondary education affected by Covid, and more recently, strikes by their teachers, in part because of the profession’s concern about the condition of education in Wales. Sam Thomas, 18, is a student from Bridgend. He says his generation “are quite a determined group”.

ITV Wales' Megan Boot reports. A considerable overhaul is needed to secure the future of the Welsh language, according to an independent report into the Welsh Government's strategy. The number of people speaking Welsh in so-called "heartland" communities is declining and there is a real concern in some quarters about the language disappearing as a widely-spoken community language.
