1 Introduction Climatic warming is predicted to result in an increase in extreme temperature and weather events (Sippel et al. 2020). In endotherms, prolonged exposure to high ambient temperatures has been associated with reduced reproductive success (e.g., Van de Ven et al. 2020; Pipoly et al. 2022; Levillain et al. 2025) and reports of mass mortality (Jones et al. 2018; Piatt et al. 2020; McKechnie et al. 2021).
