Phones are such a buzzkill
A sea of phones. Hundreds of pictures, taken never to be looked at again. Rushing to post on social media to prove you were there. That’s what modern-day concerts have become. Although many seem to be trying to shift away from the constant use of our smartphones, more artists could begin to implement phone-free concerts. With the success of big-name artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Harry Styles, Paul McCartney and more doing this very thing, concerts could shift back to what they used to be.
Please, no more Colleen Hoover movies
In the past several years, it seems like there has been a surge in book-to-movie adaptations, but what is the quality of some of the books that are being chosen? Some of my favorite movies of all time have been book adaptations, such as “Pride and Prejudice” (2005) and “Little Women” (2019). This is certainly not a criticism of all book-to-movie adaptations, but an analysis on why mediocre books are getting chosen out of the millions of high-quality titles available.
VIDEO: My Owala is working overtime
The opinions expressed in this video are the speaker’s own and do not uphold the opinions expressed by the Kentucky Kernel. Picture this: It’s 3 p.m. and it’s 95 degrees outside. The sun is blaring down, I’m sweating profusely and my shoulder bag has become especially heavy. I’m walking with hundreds of other students trying to get to the same place and speed-walking to escape the heat, only for me to get inside the building and drink my entire water bottle.

I’m walking with hundreds of other students trying to get to the same place and speed-walking to escape the heat, only for me to get inside the building and drink my entire water bottle. It doesn’t take long to find another University of Kentucky student complaining about the same problems. Some are having even worse experiences.
Mitch McConnell is why we need term limits
After a three month break from Congress following an alleged fall, 84-year-old Sen. Mitch McConnell is back and being wheeled in to vote! Makes you feel pretty inspired, right? McConnell has represented Kentucky since Jan. 3, 1985. Let that sink in. He has represented the state of Kentucky since before the internet was invented. Before cell phones, flat-screen TVs and most importantly, years before many of us were even alive. How is he able to serve while his declining condition is visible to everyone?
Bridging the gap: Understanding 9/11 as Gen-Z
Sept. 11, 2001. A day that will forever be memorialized in American history. A day that is marked by the loss of 2,977 individuals, who each had their own lives and their own stories. Now, on the 25th anniversary of this tragic day, it is important that we keep their memories alive as we bridge the widening gap that exists between the younger generations and our knowledge of this fateful day.
Is your dorm touse?
Every student who has had the pleasure (or misfortune) of living on campus at UK probably has a distinct memory of the first time they set foot in their dorm. Maybe you were impressed that you had your own room with a nice mattress, or perhaps you were doomed to a tri-it or a shared room with a twin-xl bed. Either way, the experiences that you have had in the residence halls at UK have probably shaped your opinion of on-campus housing.
Informed voting: why it needs to make a comeback
Voting: an essential trait of democracy that has kept our institutions running for 250 years and the ultimate power to choose who will represent us on almost every level of government. The way we cast our ballots is what makes an election swing and is what puts power in the hands of the people. However, too many of us take this simple act for granted. Even more so, U.S. politics on both sides has become superficial, unprofessional and uninformed.
Forged Faces, Real Liability: Deepfake Laws Take Effect In Washington State And Pennsylvania
In the last few months, both Washington State and Pennsylvania enacted significant legislation addressing the malicious use of deepfakes—artificial intelligence-generated or manipulated media. These new laws reflect a growing national and state-level trend to regulate AI-generated content, especially when used to harm individuals or mislead the public.

Vanderbilt Ranked 58th for Free Speech: Fact or Fiction?
Vanderbilt University was ranked 58th out of the 159 colleges evaluated in the 2021 College Free Speech Rankings, released on September 21. The rankings were conducted by College Pulse, RealClear Education, and the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE). While the University was ultimately awarded 60 out of a possible 100 points, there are questions about the survey’s methodology and potential donor biases.
