In the glittering heart of the Las Vegas Strip, far from Wyoming’s wide-open skies and rugged mountain ranges, the spirit of the Cowboy State was alive and kicking at a breakfast honoring Team Wyoming—the only state-sponsored rodeo team in the National Finals Rodeo. Held at Resorts World, the event drew hundreds of Wyomingites, decked out in their signature boots and hats, to celebrate the grit and talent of their homegrown competitors.

Having admired the Sphere ever since its rotund exterior lit up for the first time on the Fourth of July, I was thrilled to get a chance check out the inside. I attended a showing of “Postcard from Earth.” Here’s what struck me as I checked everything out and watched the show. It’s dark inside. Most surfaces are black and shiny. The other major color is a dark royal blue. The effect might be described as futuristic, but in some important places, it’s just plain dark.
