A man's final wish from his hospital bed: 'Find my dogs a forever home'

In March, a terminally ill New Yorker who went by “Mr. Spencer” shared a final wish: That his beloved German shepherds would go to a loving home. According to CBS News and WCBS, a local nonprofit called NYC Second Chance Rescue took custody of his dogs — Bowie and Nikki — soon after he was hospitalized. When he asked to say his final goodbyes, the rescue granted his wish, bringing them into his hospital room for an emotional farewell.

A new species of seahorse was just discovered by an international team of researchers at Tuticorin harbour in southern India — and it was overlooked for more than a century. “The thorny seahorse, Hippocampus histrix, has long been treated as a single, widely distributed species ranging from the Red Sea and western Indian Ocean to the western Pacific,” co-author Shalu Kannan observed in the new study, which was published in the scientific journal “Zootaxa” on August 5.

Soon after the season three finale of “House of the Dragon” aired on HBO on August 9, Discover Magazine reported that the record-breaking fantasy series had inspired the name of a new species in western Thailand. Scientists Poramad and Krittiya Trivalairat had climbed to an elevation of 4,396 feet in Thailand’s Mae Wong National Park to survey the location for dwarf mountain horned dragons.
