My mother’s death made me declutter my home
Going through my wardrobe last month, I ruthlessly discarded not only my clothes, but a dozen tiny tops that I’d held on to from when my sons were babies. Then I moved onto my bedside table, chucking away old scent bottles and cards, before tackling the shelves in the living room. It would now take my boys 10 minutes and a couple of bin bags – I estimate – to remove all traces of me from our flat in west London. I worked with grim determination.

Then I woke one morning in late December 2024 and could barely open my eyes. I'd felt fine going to bed the night before, but while I slept I'd developed a sharp pain in my left eye. It stung terribly and I could barely open it, it was so uncomfortable. At first, I assumed there was something in it – a bit of grit or a hair that had lodged under the lid. I kept hoping whatever it was would work its way out on its own and I'd be fine, so I put off going to the doctor.
Wearing contact lenses while swimming almost blinded me
Gliding through the water, the light bouncing off the ripples, the pool’s chill begins to fade as my muscles warm and my mind drifts. For the last decade, swimming has been my escape, both physically and mentally. Each morning, I walk my son to school, then peel off and head to the pool. It wasn’t just about the exercise, it gave me space to think. I’d get into the pool, swim 50 lengths and let my mind drift. A daily dip soon became an essential part of my week.
I was a lesbian for more than a decade - then I had triplets with my husband
Jackie Clune brings her 20-year-old triplets, Frank (far left), Orla and Thady to Park Theatre, London, where she’s starring in The Meat King! (Inc.) of Brooklyn Heights - Rii Schroer As the school secretary, Mrs Lamb, in hit series Motherland, actor Jackie Clune was equal parts humourless and terrifying. In reality, she’s thankfully the opposite: warm, funny and open, despite being at the end of a gruelling day battling London traffic and rehearsing for her latest role playing a butcher.
My adult son’s living at home – so how can I stop being a nagging mum?

I went on an extra marital affairs website - here’s what surprised me…
Closer’s Mel Fallowfield freely admits she was judgemental when she was asked to join a website solely for cheating spouses, but how did she feel after exploring one herself… When my editor asked me to join an extra marital affairs website for an article I was astonished – I had no idea such websites existed, or how popular they are. I’m not completely naïve, I’d always known cheating happens in marriages – 20% of married people have affairs in the UK - but I always thought it was circumstantial.
