For eyewear designers, that diversity also expands scope to create frames in shapes, sizes, and colours to suit the many different faces of our population. While very few eyewear designers have their frames made in Australia, they all have their fingers on the pulse when it comes to manufacturing as they search to find the point of difference that will stand them ahead of a competitive international market. It is hoped that the Drive with Heart campaign, which was launched in early April at Melbourne airport, will improve the experience for passengers travelling with assistance animals. As part of the campaign, taxi and rideshare drivers are learning about highly trained assistance animals, as well as getting the chance to meet Seeing Eye Dogs and speak to assistance animal handlers about their lived experiences.

Devices like iCare’s Eidon ultra-widefield, with TrueColor confocal technology, are also providing valuable opportunities to educate patients about their disease states, in the first instance and as time goes by. For ophthalmologist Dr Malvika Gupta from Eastern Eye Specialists in Melbourne, having “fought to invest in the Eidon for three years at the Sunbury practice” this device has become a clinical necessity that she wouldn’t be without.
