What was your first job as a journalist?
It was actually at the Santa Clara Weekly (now Silicon Valley Voice) 10 years ago.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I learned how to type on a typewriter.
How is social media changing news?
It's simply allowing people to get the most basic of information in the fastest way possible.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Google Docs, mostly. I also use LibreOffice Writer instead of Word.
Why did you become a journalist?
I loved writing and hearing people's stories. It seemed like a natural fit.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did. I was a reporter and I honestly can't remember everything I covered.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Usually any time during regular business hours is fine.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
It wasn't so much the pitch, but it was the constant follow up and the promise for an exclusive that was already given to another outlet.
What's your favorite drink?
Iced coffee (isn't caffeine a requirement to be a journalist?)
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I can't say that I have a favorite. I try to read multiple publications to get a complete picture of any situation/story.
