INTRODUCTION Since the elections of Margaret Thatcher in the United Kingdom and Ronald Reagan in the United States, neoliberal ideology has dominated political leaders’ approaches to the state (Brown, 2006; Harvey, 2007). Although a neoliberal ideology has become widespread, its exact form morphs and changes as it influences different geographical communities and political regimes (Bettache et al., 2020; Sassen, 2018).
