1 INTRODUCTION Mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) are large, long-lived clusters of thunderstorms that occur throughout the Tropics, midlatitudes, and subtropics (Laing & Fritsch, 2000; Zipser et al., 2006). In the Sahel, they provide a major source of rainfall and are frequently associated with flash floods, damaging winds, intense lightning, and other high-impact hazards (Klein et al., 2021; Mathon et al., 2002; Panthou et al., 2018).
