Saving Tiny Limbs: Successful Use of Nitroglycerin Ointment in a Preterm Infant
Peripheral tissue ischaemia is a frequent complication from both venous and arteriosus cannulation, and preterm newborns are a particularly vulnerable population, given the need for such invasive procedures during their clinical management. The use of topical nitroglycerin is effective in treatment of tissue ischaemia due to vasospasm in arterial catheterization. The 0.4% nitroglycerin ointment resulted effective and safe in extremely preterm newborn.
