MI-SAPPHIRE Grant

The old steam whistle on Michigan Tech's Central Energy Plant will be blown today to commence the K-Day noon recess! The whistle was saved from the demolition of the Atlas Powder Company explosives plant in Senter (near Lake Linden) in the early 1960s and donated to Michigan Tech. It had been used for various signaling purposes at the plant throughout many years of the copper mining era. The first record of the steam whistle being used to signal K-Day was on Oct. 1, 1968.

The Department of Public Safety and Police Services is organizing an emergency management exercise on June 4 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. This exercise is crucial for testing emergency response procedures and ensuring the safety of the campus community. Role Players Needed Public Safety is seeking volunteers to act as role players during the exercise.

Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences (GMES) faculty candidate Daisy Ning will give a presentation Monday (March 18) from 1-2 p.m. in Dow 610. Virtual attendance is also invited via Zoom. All are welcome to attend. Ning's presentation is titled "Enhancing Energy Sustainability via Integrated Subsurface Characterization." From the abstract: Addressing climate change necessitates a shift towards enhancing energy sustainability.
