1 Introduction Trichomes are specialised epidermal outgrowths that cover many above-ground plant surfaces, which can be classified into two main types based on their secretory capacity: secretory glandular trichomes (GTs) and non-glandular trichomes (NGTs) (Yang and Ye 2013).
