“Politics is temporary, but humanity is permanent. No politician is worth sacrificing genuine friendships, family bonds, or peaceful coexistence.””Politics is temporary, but humanity is permanent”. Thinking About Missions? Read This Book.
Zeal for missions grew in my heart after reading John Piper’s Don’t Waste Your Life as a teenager. I even told my parents we should downsize our home and give the money to missions. Not surprisingly, we didn’t. But after finishing seminary and getting married, I finally made the move. Almost a decade ago, my wife and I said our tearful goodbyes to family and friends, then packed up our belongings (mostly books and clothes) into seven tubs and boarded a 16-hour flight from Dallas to Dubai.

‘The Saints' Everlasting Rest’ by Richard Baxter
Most American professing Christians (85 percent) believe in heaven, according to Pew’s in 2024. But how often do they think about heaven? Not often, if a survey of popular hymns and Christian songs is an indication. We’re made for heaven, but it’s so easy to settle for earth. Paul calls us to set our “minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Col 3:2). How can we learn to do that? Richard Baxter, an English Puritan, wrestled with the same question nearly 400 years ago.
Borrowed Time
Michael Abraham · Follow 2 min read · -- This morning after dropping my son off to school I was walking to my car while he and his class were walking from chapel back to class. I kept waving each time I passed a parked car in the parking lot and it almost became a game as he started to look for me and I started to look for him after each car. Our smiles and laughs increased each time we passed a car. I knew that at some point I would reach my car and no longer see him.

By Michael Abraham At the October 30th meeting of the Retired Men’s Association, Bob Rimmer introduced the week’s speaker, Carleen Lyden Walker. Third-Party Vendors and The Cloud isn’t safe anymore…
Have you started to see third party vendors being vulnerable to breaches? MongoDB’s corporate systems were recently exposed to unauthorised access. This exposure showcased customer account metadata and contact information. Since this security incident MongoDB has reassured its customers, no data stored has been compromised. But can we trust their word? As soon as a breach or exposure happens, I would say pretty much instantly we lose customer trust.

Thinking of You: On Grace
by Michael Abraham The shower is running. It has just begun to steam up the little bathroom in my little apartment, and I reach into it, turn the dial from all-the-way-hot to almost-all-the-way-hot. I step into the spray of the water, and I discover that, instead of almost-all-the-way-hot, I have turned the dial to nearly-tepid. I turn it back toward all-the-way-hot, and, almost immediately, I feel it scald my chest. I fuss with it.

The New Year - 3 Quarks Daily
by Michael Abraham I wake with the dawn. It is January the sixth, and I have spent the last two days languishing in bed, oppressed by an inexplicable ennui that made it quite impossible to get up. So, today, I wake with the dawn. The sky is all blues and pinks, with tufts of cloud. The night has been wet, and I stand in bare feet on my porch and smoke my cigarette and drink my coffee, relishing strangely the damp chill that creeps into my toes.

Some Notes on Dorothy Gale
by Michael Abraham It has all gotten too technicolor for Dorothy Gale. The trees and the grass are too green—not to mention the Emerald City (she had to take the glasses off several times to rub her eyes)—and the slippers are much too silver, or were they ruby? There are so many colors she is getting confused. The eyes of her friends, these queer little friends she has made, they are much too luminous for her, glittering, glittering, their eyes—it is driving her crazy.

For Good - 3 Quarks Daily
by Michael Abraham I wake early—not with the dawn but not long after it—and I stare out the window at a little conglomeration of Brooklyn backyards, severed from one another by brick walls and dotted with deciduous trees holding out their last against autumn. I am all wrapped up with the man I am dating, here in his home, in his bed, in Clinton Hill.
Cruising, or: A Map to the Next World, or: A Map to the World Past
by Michael Abraham It was in the midst of thinking about my own childhood and friendships, of thinking about faith and magic and the End of the World and the World to Come, in the midst of reflecting quite deeply on these things, which for me are so profoundly interwoven, so profoundly interwoven because, in the tapestry they make together, there is, glimmering, the idea of what love is and means, the sense I have of amory, of life’s affectionate trajectory and the purpose of affection in the...

The Green Pickup, the Blue Little God, and the Unfinished Duet
by Michael Abraham She used to roll up to my house late at night, in her green pickup truck, smoking a Parliament out the window and blasting The Strokes. I was seventeen. I would climb in, and we would drive through my neighborhood much too fast, her weak, amber headlights illuminating only the nearest spot of road. We would talk about the day, about our friends at Catholic school, about whatever. It wasn’t so much about the talking.

"Prosodic Modeling for Hymn Translation" by Michael Abraham Peck

It is also known in the fields of poetics and musicology with alternate definitions and modeling practices. Photo‐Oxidizing Ruthenium(II) Complexes with Enhanced Visible‐Light Absorption and G‐quadruplex DNA Binding Abilities
Abstract Ru(II) complexes that gather strong photo-oxidizing power and enhanced visible-light absorption were prepared with the highly conjugated dph or bpph ligands. Biolayer interferometry and NCI Surface analyses show their avid binding to G-quadruplex DNA particularly arising from interaction within the G-quadruplex groove.
Bad Latin - 3 Quarks Daily
by Michael Abraham I want to write about Christ and the End of the World and how queerness will usher in the World to Come. I want to write about these things immediately, right up front, but, instead, I will begin by telling you the story of two tattoos on my own body. I will begin this way because the story of these two tattoos has themes in it, and images in it. Themes and images are always a little murky, a little slippery.

Fable of the Faggot Children
by Michael Abraham Imagine a boy, and then call him Oliver. His eyes are olive, and this is why you will call him Oliver. Oliver is not his real name, but this is no matter. None of the names in a fable are real names. In a fable, characters are named things like Fox and Hare; they have names for reasons, to tell us what they are. Hence, we will name the boy Oliver because of his bright, olive eyes—his eyes which betray so much of the intensity of him. Oliver has sparks inside him.
Hypomania - 3 Quarks Daily
by Michael Abraham I have been told it is a bad thing. I have been told this by doctors and friends and my parents and lovers. They worry over me, worry over me the way a Catholic worries over her rosary. They insist on the medication and the therapy and anything but this feeling, anything but this feeling you relish so intensely.
Oxygen‐Doped PAH Electrochromes: Difurano, Dipyrano, and Furano‐Pyrano Containing Naphthalene‐Cored Molecules
Abstract The synthesis of naphthalenyl-cored O-doped small molecule electrochromes was achieved. In a single intramolecular Pummerer oxidative cycloetherification reaction, dipyrano, difurano, and furano-pyrano products could be obtained. All molecules showed p-type semiconducting and electrochromic properties, with the colour of the transition being dependent on the O-ring. Abstract In this work, we report the synthesis of O-doped naphthalene-based electrochromes.
