Short Stacked Mistake from a Poker Final Table
Short Stacked Mistake from a Poker Final Table 08/12/2020 by Jonathan Little I was recently told about a hand from the final table of a live $500 buy-in tournament that illustrates a few key mistakes that many players make when playing short stacked. With blinds at 5,000/10,000 with a 10,000 big blind ante, everyone folded to the small blind who started with 120,000. He was the shortest stack at the final table, but there were a few other players with between 15 and 20 big blinds.
Stop Slowplaying
Stop Slowplaying 30/10/2020 by Jonathan Little Cards: 3♥3♦ J♣T♥ Board: K♠Q♠3♣9♦ I was recently told about a no-limit hold’em poker hand that illustrates a key concept you must master if you want to succeed at the game. In a $1/$2 cash game, someone raised to $7 from early position out of his $200 effective stack and our Hero called on the button with 3-3. I like Hero’s call with a small pair.
They Want to Feel Good
They Want to Feel Good 31/07/2020 by Alexander Fitzgerald “If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.” – Henry Ford Most poker players do not want to make money at the poker table. They want to feel better about themselves. They might think they want to make money, but the way they play doesn’t reflect that. There is no data to support that.
Remembering versus Knowing
Remembering versus Knowing 23/07/2020 by Alexander Fitzgerald But this teacher says I should do this play in that situation.” “Why did he say that?” I ask. (Sound of crickets) The above exchange is worrying to me. When I am talking to aspiring poker players, I am struck with an impression: They want firm answers. They want a poker trainer who they can trust 100%. They want to take his words as gospel. Then, if his strategies do not work, they want to assail him for their lack of success.

My Body is Destroyed from Online Poker
My Body is Destroyed from Online Poker 28/05/2020 by Alexander Fitzgerald I spent years of my life traveling for the game. During that time, I played online poker from any surface I could place a laptop. Airport interiors, coffee shops, hostels, cabins in the middle of nowhere…it was all fair game. In many of these spots, a wicker chair was a luxury. I didn’t have much of a choice abroad. Wherever I found a reliable internet connection, I set up shop.
The Myth of Poker Talent - an extract
The Myth of Poker Talent - an extract 14/05/2020 by Alexander Fitzgerald Capped Boards We have discussed capped boards previously, but here we are going to add some details as we analyze them more extensively. If you a recall, a “capped” board is a flop where typically the caller’s range is limited to one pair or worse. This provides ample opportunities to bluff on complicating turns. An example of a capped board is 6♠8♠9♦.

How to Treat Poker Like a Profession
How to Treat Poker Like a Profession 26/03/2020 by Matt Affleck Let’s discuss a topic I feel many “professionals” need help with, which is how to treat poker like a profession. One of my favorite quotes that comes up at the beginning of Elliot Roe’s Mental Game podcast is, “If you treat it like an amateur, you should expect amateur results.” This is one of the most applicable quotes to poker that I’ve heard in a long time regarding how many players treat their poker games.
Why You're Running Bad
Why You're Running Bad 19/03/2020 by Alexander Fitzgerald “My biggest problem lately is how bad I’ve been running.” “You’re not running bad. You’re playing bad,” I say, as I peel through their statistics. As you can imagine, this conversation doesn’t always go swimmingly. Yet, it happens quite often when I’m coaching. People will come to me hoping they can get some new plays to jolt their game. They tell me they’re running bad. I then look under the hood and find they’re making some key mistakes.

Our own interview with Ashley Adams
Our own interview with Ashley Adams 11/02/2020 by D&B Poker Why did you decide to write Winning Poker in 30 Minutes a Day? - I decided to write this book to fill a gap that I perceived in the poker instructional literature. As a poker radio show host, many authors and publishers mail me copies of poker books. There were many on no limit hold’em, and how to improve. They often contained some very useful information.
Betting too Large
Betting too Large 09/01/2020 by Jonathan Little I was recently told about a hand by an amateur poker player that illustrates a few key errors many players make on a regular basis. In a $2/$5 no-limit hold’em cash game, our Hero raised to $30 out of his $200 effective stack with A♥J♥. While I am fine with raising A♥J♥, Hero should use a smaller raise size.

Why students should prioritize their health
Back in spring 2019, I had one professor advise all the students in class to stay home if they get sick. This semester, two professors gave that same advice. I can only hope next semester, I’ll have at least one professor following in those footsteps. Very rarely have I seen other students follow that advice. Personally, I can’t stand it when people bring a contagious illness out into public.

Most people take advantage of the sales with hopes of getting ahead on holiday shopping, while sacrificing a holiday dinner with family or friends.

Where does your profit come from?
Where does your profit come from? 04/10/2019 by Jonathan Little I recently had the opportunity to play a $25/$50 no-limit game on Poker Night in America at Choctaw Casino in Durant Oklahoma. It was an awesome experience and a lot of fun. The table was a nice mix of amateurs and professionals and there was lots of action. About halfway through the first day of filming, I became aware that I was not playing very many pots with the amateurs, and quickly realized the obvious mistake I was making.

Hero called with 9♠9♥ from the small blind.
