Hello,

I am in my third semester writing for the Santa Rosa Junior College newspaper, The Oak Leaf. I earned my degree from UCSD in neuroscience and mammalian physiology, originally pursuing a career in research. I've kept my interest in learning how people work, but recently I've switched my focus to climate change and social justice. As my writing progresses I hope to make a deeper impact on human culture than I ever could through science alone.

The DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals’ thunderstorm of drag racers trickled down to their final rounds before subsiding into a winners circle where victors flushed their gullets with the sanguine Sonoma staple from laurel leaf-lined goblets at Sears Point Sunday. The final day of competition was full of friendly rivalries, upsets and a lot of tears. The Rookie Wins Jordan Vandergriff took the lead Friday and never looked back as he beat a crowded field of pros before holding up the Diamond Wally.

After a tumultuous Friday night round of qualifying, Saturday went off smoothly as the cool winds and warm track helped drivers push their vehicles to the limit in the third and fourth rounds of qualifying at the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals. Top Fuel Reigning Sonoma Champion Doug Kalitta maintained his pole position, heading into Sunday’s finals with a casual confidence. “I think today is pretty similar to what’s going to happen tomorrow,” he said.

This Saturday marked a milestone in international racing history as NHRA President Glen Cromwell announced that Autódromo de Monterrey, located in Apodaca, Nuevo León, Mexico, has returned to the NHRA Member Track Network while at the John Cardinale Media Center at the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals. “We’re in Puerto Rico, Canada, Saudi Arabia and now in Mexico,” Cromwell said.
