The Expertise Upheaval
Generative AI (GenAI) is set to reshape the workforce, redefining career pathways and talent development. However, despite public anxieties about mass displacement, GenAI’s biggest impacts won’t be on the number of jobs so much as on the level of expertise required to do them. For any given role, much depends on the learning curve between entry-level and experienced workers, which determines how knowledge and skills—and the productivity they unlock—accrue over time.
How Gen AI Could Change the Value of Expertise
As the deployment of generative AI automates away elements of some jobs and augments workers’ abilities in others, the skills, experiences, and credentials that employers use to evaluate job candidates will change rapidly. Pessimists will argue those changes limit mobility; optimists will counter that they enhance it, by reducing job requirements related to technical, or “hard,” skills. Who will be right? The truth is, AI will open doors for some workers while closing them for others.
Why an inclusive, sustainable culture is the biggest driver of performance
Nearly 40% of CEOs and 33% of employees do not believe their organizations will be economically viable in a decade if they continue on their current path. We have entered the era of reinvention—and the pressure to drive rapid change is felt by both our leaders and our people. The future of our work—our ability to transform and thrive—is interconnected with our organizations’ ability to foster and sustain an inclusive culture.

How CEOs are embracing the future of work to help advance DEI in 2023
To be effective, leaders can focus their efforts on three key drivers.
Companies Can - and Should - Help Employees Pay Student Loans
Student loan debt is a massive problem in the United States. Should companies help their employees pay down their balances — and if so, how? Five years ago PwC decided to tackle both questions by instituting a student loan paydown program for young employees.
Prominin‐1‐expressing hepatic progenitor cells induce fibrogenesis in murine cholestatic liver injury
Abstract Cholestatic liver injury is associated with intrahepatic biliary fibrosis, which can progress to cirrhosis. Resident hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs) expressing Prominin‐1 (Prom1 or CD133) become activated and participate in the expansion of cholangiocytes known as the ductular reaction. Previously, we demonstrated that in biliary atresia, Prom1(+) HPCs are present within developing fibrosis and that null mutation of Prom1 significantly abrogates fibrogenesis.
Where Counting Counts
Imagine being confronted with skyrocketing turnover, plummeting employee engagement and truly negative feedback. Then, critical appraisals from outside evaluators forecast that it will take years to turn attitudes around. PricewaterhouseCoopers' leaders faced this situation in 2002, when workers were still feeling the effects of the merger of Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand and were shocked by the Enron and Arthur Andersen meltdowns and passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
