West Side Nonprofit Expands To Offer Free LGBTQ+ Mental Health Services

AUSTIN — A West Side group dedicated to the health and wellness of LGBTQ+ Chicagoans is expanding to offer mental health services at no cost. TaskForce Prevention and Community Services announced in late May the introduction of free LGBTQ+-affirming, bilingual mental health therapy for youth, adults, couples and families. Therapy services are currently offered on Tuesdays as the organization works to scale up the program. The Austin-based organization at 9 N. Cicero Ave.

70 MPH Wind Gusts Leave Path Of Destruction Through Chicago, With More Storms Ahead

CHICAGO — Fallen trees and power lines were reported throughout the Chicago area after strong wind gusts tore through the region Wednesday afternoon — with more inclement weather looming. The National Weather Service had much of the metropolitan area under a severe thunderstorm warning through 4:30 p.m. Wednesday as a large cold front quickly moved through, producing a short yet violent burst of thunderstorms. Wind gusts hit over 70 mph in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

West Side Children’s Museum Secures Location Across From Douglass Park

NORTH LAWNDALE — A children’s center slated for North Lawndale’s Ogden Avenue corridor just took a major step toward breaking ground this year. The One Lawndale Children’s Discovery Center, which will include a children’s museum and family resource center, officially acquired its future home at 3140 W. Ogden Ave., the nonprofit behind the development announced this week. The project also recently received $500,000 in funding from the state.
