The One Big Beautiful Act Explained for Employers: What It Means for Overtime, Tips and Taxes | JD Supra
On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) into law. It includes two federal tax deductions for a portion of an eligible worker’s tips and overtime earnings. Effective for 2025 through 2028, the “No Tax on Overtime” and “No Tax on Tips” provisions of the OBBBA are structed as federal income tax deductions, meaning they each reduce taxable income and, thereby, the tax liability for the employee claiming it.
Texas Noncompete Law for Physicians, Healthcare Workers Takes Effect September 2025 | JD Supra
As previously noted here, a sweeping change to Texas noncompete law is coming Sept. 1, 2025, reshaping employment agreements for physicians and other healthcare practitioners. Texas Senate Bill 1318 adds to the existing requirements for physician noncompete agreements under Section 15.50 of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and, for the first time, extends these requirements to noncompetes with other types of healthcare practitioners.
Federal Judge Halts FTC’s Noncompete Ban
As expected, a federal judge in the Northern District of Texas has temporarily halted the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) from enforcing its new rule banning noncompete agreements against Ryan LLC and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. On July 3, U.S. District Judge Ada Brown granted a preliminary injunction, stopping the rule from taking effect in September while the court reviews whether the FTC has the authority to issue such a broad ban.
