To challenge or not to challenge?
During the course of an American National Football League (NFL) football game, the teams move up and down the field in a series of “downs” – short bursts of play – running or passing the ball in an attempt to score points by making either a “touchdown” for 6 points (plus a possible extra point by a short kick through the opponent's goal posts) or a field goal, a kick from the current position through the opponent's goal posts, for 3 points.
The Mega Millions Lottery and Hypothesis Testing
The Impossible Lottery Lotteries like Mega Millions are difficult to win because they are games of chance; however, due to the law of truly large numbers, there will be winners when enough tickets are sold. This is what lottery commissions want, because if winning a lottery jackpot is so unlikely that nobody will ever win, no one will buy tickets. Can you have such a game? PG&E’s power shut-offs - back to the 19th century
During the 2019 fire season, PG&E is intermittently shutting off electricity in “high risk” fire areas and elsewhere in the PG&E service area. According to PG&E, “If extreme fire danger conditions threaten a portion of the electric system serving your community, it will be necessary for us to turn off electricity in the interest of public safety.” These are the same folks who went bankrupt because of the disasters they caused.
